One of Naples’ most striking artistic installations is the spectacular array of work by globally renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly. The permanent installation of Chihuly at The Baker Museum is a vivid collection of fine art that represents inspiration from nature, perfectly complementing the bright palette of the Naples landscape.
Chihuly is famous not only for the artistry of his brightly-colored vessels and sculptures, but for pioneering new techniques to incorporate pattern and design like no other glass artist has. He considers glass a ‘magical’ medium for its special ability to transmit and transform light. Those transformative qualities are on magnificent display in The Baker Museum’s Persian Ceiling, which casts a rainbow of colors and shapes onto the walls beneath the installation. Just as stunning is the Blue Icicle in the museum’s atrium. Three stories in height with intricate tendrils that evoke the plumes of an exotic bird or blossom, the Icicle chandelier adds visual drama to the museum’s impressive collections.
